Check out what you missed on SNL last night with Natalie Portman.
Natalie Portman once again strayed away from her drama acting to show her funny side on SNL last night alongside Dua Lipa as the musical guest. I’ve had this pairing marked on my calendar for a while now and they definitely did not disappoint. Coming off of Portman’s well placed political statement at the Golden Globes last month, she was not shy to be in some of the politically charged skits in the show. One of which she took on the likeness of Jackie Kennedy while she and other former First Ladies (Hillary Clinton, Martha Washington and Michelle Obama) help Melania Trump to deal with her husband’s presidency.
But the best part of the show was when Portman paid homage to her iconic rap skit in 2006 by giving us exactly what we wanted in 2018. Portman gave us even more to laugh about as she rapped about her Star Wars days, tide pods and even made reference to the birth of her child since her last time hosting the show twelve years ago. I’m not quite sure what it is about Natalie Portman walking down a hallway shooting people but I definitely think it’s my new aesthetic. You can listen to her rap skills below. Also, I suppose I should warn against some mature content.
Not only was the host a huge hit, but Dua Lipa lit up the stage with two songs from her self-titled debut album. She performed “New Rules,” keeping with the theme of the music video with backup singers in silk night dresses. She also performed “Homesick,” a slower more emotional track while atop a grand piano.
In addition, Alec Baldwin made an appearance as Donald Trump in the opening sketch as Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch made some cameo appearances and audiences were pleased to see Andy Samberg return to the “Natalie Raps II” segment.
If you ask me, I think this was possibly the best SNL episode we’ve seen in a while and I hope this can be a kick starter for the rest of the season. Next week, SNL returns with Charles Barkley hosting along with musical guest, Migos.
